If you would like to join us on our next venture - a staged radio play of the Scarlet Pimpernel - then come along to auditions on 2nd October from 12pm and 4th October from 5:30pm at the University of Kent Canterbury campus.
This particular version of The Scarlet Pimpernel was originally aired on 12th December 1938, adapted from the film starring Leslie Howard and Oliva De Havilland.
For those wondering what on earth a staged radio play is… You will be transported to 1940s Hollywood, wearing full black tie/evening dresses and all the associated glamour of the time, to play your best film star self. With scripts in hand (which means no line learning!) in front of old style radio mics, the actors will be joined by an on stage “foley team” providing live sound effects, and stealing most of the laughs from the crowd. As well as this, there will be a Host/MC to introduce the all-star cast and guide the audience through the play. Due to the change in venue this year from Gulbenkian to Mungo’s, we will also need a Front of House team and Technical team, which gives us more opportunities than ever before for people to get involved.
Below is a link to a podcast called The Thrilling Adventure Hour which brilliantly shows this concept in action:
We will be running a read-through of the script on 5.30pm-7.30pm on Tuesday 25th September 2018 in in Cornwallis IS S33 University of Kent Canterbury campus. This read-through will give everyone the opportunity to practice their best French accents and find out more about the play.
If you have any questions or are unable to make the scheduled audition dates (Tuesday 2nd/Thursday 4th October) but would like to be involved, please drop an email to email@example.com and we’ll gladly arrange an alternative with you.
